This program is hosted by Jovo, the first open source framework that lets you build apps for both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Join the founders of Jovo in this program and build your own Alexa Skill and Google Action in 30 days.
Smart speakers like the Amazon Echo or Google Home seem to be everywhere these days. These new types of devices open up opportunities for makers to create new kinds of experiences for use cases that don't require a screen.
Always wanted to build apps for Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant but didn't know where to get started? In this challenge, you will learn how to use the open source framework Jovo to build a cross-platform voice app that works on both Alexa (an Alexa Skill) and Google Assistant (a Google Action). Take a look here to see how it works.
The topics will include:
- What you need to get started (hint: not even a smart speaker)
- Coming up with ideas and use cases
- Voice User Interface (VUI) Design
- Voice App Development
How it works
Sign up to the batch and when it begins, you'll be given materials to help you in this challenge. There will be a Slack Channel for real-time chat to post any questions you may have. You'll be able to reach out to the instructors at any time. There are also going to be AMAs (Ask Me Anything - Q&A sessions) with other voice app developers who have done this lots of times before!
Add the dates in the timeline to your calendars to keep track of the events going on and stay on top of the assignments set. You'll be prompted to submit updates about your progress, the more you share the better! Other participants will be sharing their stats so everyone stays accountable.
Once you join the batch, you will need to add the product you are working on. Name it something random if you don't have one already, this product can be edited at any time (so if you land on the greatest name during week 2, you can change it).
